HAPPY LIVING SEMINAR IN AIZAWL CITY

 

HAPPY LIVING SEMINAR was conducted by our Brethrens from Philippines mostly from AIIAS and AUP.  On 24 April to 1st May, 2010, the seminar members from abroad are:

Among these team members, there are Medical Doctors, Public Health Instruction, Professors and Theologians.  The group had a meeting with Mr. Lalthanhawla, Chief Minister of Mizoram on Friday evening on May 23, 2010.  The seminar teams felt very much privileged to have such a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister to pay homage respect and offer prayer for his leadership role in Mizoram, in spite of his busy and hectic schedule. The First Lady Rii Lalthanhawla warmly received them and had a tea party at the end of the meeting and dialogue.

 

The seminar team members were divided into various smaller groups and were sent to 11 churches in Aizawl City for vespers and Divine Service meeting on the first Sabbath. The so called “International Gospel Concert” was organized on Saturday night.  All the seats and Isles of Vanapa Hall, the biggest Hall were filled and many more were there outside seeking chance to enter the hall.  Music and songs in groups and solo were presented by the teams and local Adventist singers.

 

The seminars were scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m Sunday evening April 25, 2010 at five different places.  The venue of the seminars and the speakers were:

 

1. Vanapa Hall – Dr. Paoring Ragui, Mr. F. Sangliana, Mr. Benjamin Mckenzie and Evelyn G. Cezer and Jenny Ramrar as Children’s Program in charge and health talk.

2. ITI community hall – Pastor Joo Youngcheol, Dr. Arden Perdon as speakers and Dr. Jacquiline Salagubang and Dr. Imelda G. Perdon as health lecture, clinic and Children’s program in charge.

3. Chawlhhmun Community hall – Dr. Helario Dela Torre and Mr. Benjain Mckenzie were the speaker, Mrs. Puring Ragui and Dr. Mabel Dela Torre were the Health Talk and Children’s program in charge.

4.Thuampui Community Hall – Dr. Michael Palar and Dr. Ben Mergal were the speaker, Anelyn Orbe and Elievan Tangugan were health and Children’s Program in charge.

5. Ramhlun – In this area, evangelistic crusades had been conducted as ground work, eight people had been baptized, during this Happy Living Seminar, another serious of meeting had been conducted by local pastors and evangelists.

 

The seminar in fact, evangelistic meeting series were short. However, the local pastors and evangelists had been working giving Bible studies and cottage meetings for two and half months prior to the seminars as ground work.  Therefore, this Happy Living Seminar was the reaping evangelism.

 

May 1, 2010 Sabbath Day, the appointed day for baptism came. Baptismal pools were made on the dry Helen Lowry School ground with sylpouline.  A short meeting was held in the school auditorium where short sermons were delivered and baptismal vows taken.

 

Ten pastors, one in each pool were baptizing 139 precious souls. Large crowd of Adventist members attended the solemn ceremony.  This was one of the most remarkable events of the Mizo Conference of SDA history.  We were all filled with the joy of victory in Christ. “This is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous to our eyes”.

FDIC Meeting for the Volunteers

Faith development in Context department organized  a meeting for the volunteers  in different parts of the country.  One group had their meeting in Hydrabad   from February 14-20, another group met in Raxol from 23-28 and third group met in Kolkotta from 1-5. Dr. Bruce Moyer was the resource person. Who gave the volunteers the eight signs from the holy book. Apart from the classes we had personal interviews and testimonies to encourage the members.

 

One Day Communication Seminar in Belegaum

The Goa West Karnataka section organized a section wide communication seminar for the communication directors of the churches and schools on  March 28, 2010. This meeting scheduled in the Assam Nagar school auditorium.  Resource persons were Dr. T P Kurian,  and Mr. Ravi Shankar  and the translation was done by Pastor Robinson.

The topics were: The responsibility of the Communicator, Adventist News Network and service and Public Realations etc. The delegates received much blessing from the

various presentations.

Treasurers’ Council 2010: Southern Asia Division

Southern Asia Division Treasurers’ Council was held at Hotel Jaipur Ashok, Rajasthan from February 02-06. The theme chosen for the council was “Self Reliant by 2015: Conceptualize, Strategize & Realize”. 97 treasurers from various levels of church administration and institutions and a few other leaders of the church were present. The resource personnel inspired the audience by their presentations to achieve the goal --  a Self- Reliant Church by 2015. Robert E Lemon, Treasurer, GC; John Stanley, Principal Consultant, Quintesse Consultant Pvt. Ltd;  David Rawson, Director, Field services, ARM; John Dougan, Assoc. Director, Field Services, ARM were the resource personnel. All who attended the council received something to work on as they try to achieve the goal of self relaiance by 2015 .

Administrators’ Council 2010: Southern Asia Division

Both Presidents’ and Secretaries’ Council was conducted at Hotel Trisea, Kannyakumari from February 9-11. The theme for the council was “Excellence in leadership: agonize & organize. Paul S Ratsara, President, Southern Africa- Indian Ocean Division, who was accompanied by his wife, Denise Ratsara, was the chief Resource personnel. He enlightened the leaders with beautiful guidelines for good leadership. During his sessions, Paul Ratsara presented 10 characteristics of a successful leadership:       1. Choose to lead  2. Be the person others choose to follow  3. Provide vision for the future     4. Provide inspiration  5. Make other people feel important and appreciated   6. Live your values, Behave ethically  7. Set the pace through your expectations and example    8. Establish an environment of continuous improvement                 9. Provide opportunities for people to grow, both personally and professionally   10. Care and act with compassion.  98 delegates were present and received inspiration to lead the church effectively hereafter.    

Division Wide Temperance Rally & Speech, Poster Contest

A great temperance rally with over 1000 students was organized in the city of Ahmadabad under the leadership of Pr. MD Joseph, Director, Health Ministries, SUD on January 24. The students marched on the streets in colorful uniform with banners and placards showing the bad effects of smoking, drinking tea & coffee, liquors and meat eating. Two floats moved in the middle of the road along with the students displaying the liquor bottles, cigar packets, motor cycle accidents and a coffin carrying a dead body due to drunken driving accident. The float got the real attention of the public. The Prohibition Officer of the city was the chief guest on the occasion and he was so thrilled and pleased to see that the Adventists emphasize temperance and train the students to practice it. It was a fantastic show on the road for the public. The Adventist church and its principles was the topic of discussion for the public on that day.  After the rally, speech and poster contest were conducted in Maninagar school.  Everybody  including the public considered it as a great event that happened in the city of Ahmadabad. All praises and glory to God!    

News from the Ministerial Department, SUD

A revival meeting under the leadership of Dr. M Wilson, Director, Ministerial Department, SUD was conducted in Hydrabad church on 14 & 15 of January. A writers’ conference was held in Pune on 17 & 18 January where Elder Satelmajor, Editor, Ministry Magazine provided guidelines for writing to the pastors. On 19th January a workers’ meeting was conducted at Mumbai to train them to do better evangelism.

Sad Demise of Pastor Prakash Sharma

 

Pastor Prakash Sharma, Western India Union Communication Director passed away on January 7, 2010. And the funeral took place on January 11, 2010 at Salisbury Park Church, Pune. He worked in different capacities of the church after completing his education in Spicer Memorial College. He leaves behind his wife shirly and two children Ashish and Apeksha and a host of relatives.

 

Herald of Health Magazine Celebrated 100 years of Service

 

Herald of Health, India’s oldest existing health magazine completed 100 years of health education to India’s citizens. To mark this occasion, a special issue of the magazine was released by Shri. Mohansingh  Rajpal, Mayor of Pune. The magazine is published by the Oriental Watchman Publishing House (OWPH) at Salisbury Park, Pune, which is a unit of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

 

Seventh-day Adventist School Receives Three Medals on Republic Day

 

The students of Immanuel English School of Seventh-day Adventists, Jeypore,  participated in the parade on Republic Day for the first time this year and won three medals. They stood first in parade, first in gymnastics and first in Drill among more than 30 schools and colleges in Jeypore sub-division, Orissa.

A lot of rains are expected during the month of June in India. Since monsoon has failed, most of the places have been affected by extreme heat this year. In some places, schools remained closed due to the heat, though schools reopen after summer vacation in the month of June. In some areas many died of heat waves. Occurrences of these calamities are pointing towards the soon return of our Lord. Let us get ready for the greatest event that will take place at the closing of the history of this world.


Leadership Training in Hosur, Elder Pardon k Mwansa

On June 23, one of the vice presidents of GC, Elder Pardon Mwansa conducted  a  one-day seminar for the leaders of the Southern Asia Division, in Hosur office. Some of the Union Presidents were also present for this seminar. He dealt with the following topics:    The most effective way to serve as a leader: the power of number; Unity and order: Key to dynamic progress and great relationships; Divine leadership: Treating all classes of people with equal justice; How to prepare yourself for successful leadership. There was lively discussion and good feed back from the audience. Valuable lessons were learned by the leaders of Southern Asia Division during the 4 hours they spent with Elder Mwansa.

PDD conducts great Evangelism Campaign in the Mumbai.

Pastor AJ Tito, Publishing Department Director of the Division, conducted an evangelistic campaign on June 15-30 in Mumbai. Ullas Nagar in Natarajan Auditorium was the venue where Pastor Wilmar Hirl, Associate Publishing Director of GC also participated. Mr. Augustin Joseph directed the meetings assisted by pastors and Literature evangelists around the area. The meeting was inaugurated by a local MLA and the Union President Pr. Ramesh Jadev. 200-300 people regularly attended these meetings in spite of the hot climate. At the end of the meeting 27 people took their stand for Christ. There will be another session of Baptism of 15 people on July 11.

Teacher Orientation Program in Schools

As the schools were getting reopened in the month of June, Dr. Ramani Kurian, Assitant Director of Education, Southern Asia Division conducted Teacher Orientation Program for the teachers of 13 schools in South West India Union and 5 Schools in South Central India Union. The teachers of our schools come from multi-cultural and multi-religious backgrounds. It was felt that they needed to be oriented to a system of Adventist education. The main topics dealt during the sessions are: Educate for Etetrnity: Aim of True education; Educational Objectives & Teaching Objectives: How to attain them through classroom teaching; Strategies and Methods to attain the Objectives; Classroom Management & Discipline focusing upon the aim of true education etc. The response from the adventist as well as non-adventist teachers was very much encouraging.
